While the Oscar races have yet to heat up, a group of young filmmakers are set to take home some hardware as the winners of the Student Academy Awards were announced on Monday. Seventeen students were selected from a record number of entries, which included 1,749 films from 381 colleges and universities around the world.

The awards ceremony for the seven categories will take place on Sept. 22, where gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded. The winning films will all have their chance to win even bigger: They will be eligible to compete in the Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, or Documentary Short Subject categories at the 2017 Academy Awards.
