MSU students make their way back to campus

The floors have been cleaned. The windows washed. The furniture dusted. Now all Michigan State University’s residence halls need are students.

And that will happen Sunday when first-year and transfer students begin the move-in process around 8 a.m. Returning students move in beginning at 8 a.m. Monday. Classes will start on Wednesday.

“The start of the new semester is always an exciting time of year,” said MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon. “It’s critical that students get their academic careers off to a good start and I’m confident we have the programs, resources and support services to do just that.”

An army of volunteers will be on hand to help the students move in, including fellow students, faculty, staff, alumni and community volunteers. In addition, the students’ families, as well as the move-in volunteers, will be invited to enjoy a complimentary meal in one of MSU’s award-winning dining halls.

MSU’s incoming class is anticipated to be around 7,890 students.

Housing more than 14,500 students, MSU has one of the largest on-campus residence hall systems in the country.

Most roads, sidewalks and pathways will be open for move-in days, with two exceptions. The area surrounding the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory and the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams project maintains ongoing pedestrian detours around the construction site and also has lane restrictions on Wilson Road.

In addition, the area around Life Sciences, the Bott Building for Nursing Education and Research, and the Bio Engineering Facility currently has pedestrian detours around the construction site.
