Objective

Following these steps will opt you in to automatically receive notifications from MSU's service alert website, to help you keep track of ongoing changes or outages with various MSU IT systems.

Before You Begin

You can choose to receive notifications by email, text, or through MS Teams.

Steps

Email or SMS Subscriptions

  1. Launch https://servicestatus.msu.edu/
  2. In the upper right, click on the Subscribe link
  3. Select either Email or SMS for the notification method
  4. Enter your Email address for the Email option or Phone number for the SMS option
  5. Under Notify About you have two options:
    1. All services: select this option to receive notification about all services
    2. Selected services: select this option to receive notification about only certain services
      1. With option 2, you will need to click on each of the Category (Group) to choose the Service(s) that you wish to be notified about. (Note: all services are on by default.  To turn Services off, you will need to click on the toggle to turn OFF the Service notifications).
      2. If you are unsure of the Service Offering, select the HELP link in the upper right
  6. You can choose to only receive notifications when an incident begins and when it is resolved by changing the toggle to ON beside the heading Do not notify on intermediate incident updates, otherwise you will receive a notification every time an update is recorded.
  7. Click the Subscribe button

MS Teams Subscription (added in new version)

You can add a subscription to a MS Teams channel you own so that the entire channel gets service notifications. Instructions are copied from the StatusHub Support Site. Follow that link for screenshots, etc.

  1. Open your MS Teams
  2. Choose a channel in the team where you want to receive notifications and click on options (three dots). Click Connectors
  3. Under All category find Incoming Webhook. Click the Configure button
  4. Click Add
  5. Provide name and chosen image. Click Create
  6. Copy generated webhook URL
  7. Go to https://servicestatus.msu.edu/. Click Subscribe and choose Teams. Paste in copied URL
  8. Click Subscribe. You will see confirmation information. You should also receive a confirmation message in your Teams channel
